Aups: A Gateway to the Verdon
Aups, also known as "Alps" in Occitan, is a charming village located at the gateway to the Verdon, in the foothills of the Alps, at an altitude of 500 meters. This picturesque spot nestles at the foot of the Espiguières mountain, peaking at 880 meters. This mountain is a tufa rampart, mysteriously pierced by numerous caves and sinkholes, including Sainte-Magdeleine and Plérimond. The village is also surrounded by a fertile plateau, irrigated by the Grave torrent and by numerous springs that feed the town's fountains.
A Healthy Mediterranean Climate
Located 60 km from the Mediterranean Sea and 80 km from ski resorts, Aups enjoys a very healthy Mediterranean climate. This unique geographical location offers residents and visitors a perfect blend of maritime and mountain pleasures.
Rich and Diverse Vegetation
The vegetation of Aups is typically Mediterranean, consisting mainly of Aleppo pines, holm oaks, and downy oaks, used in particular for truffle cultivation. Olive trees also thrive in the plains, in forested areas such as the Uchanes forest, the Espiguière valley, and Pelenq.
From an altitude of 700 meters, the Alpine mountains to the north of the commune are home to Scots pines, scrubland, box trees and kermes oaks. These mountains include the Cuguyons (995 m), proudly depicted on the village coat of arms, as well as the mountains of the chapels Notre-Dame-de-Liesse (985 m) and Saint-Priest (1,077 m).
Aups is thus a place where nature and history meet, offering an exceptional living environment and breathtaking landscapes for nature lovers and adventurers.
The municipality has been part of the Verdon Regional Natural Park since 2000.
