The commune of Tournus, located between Lyon and Dijon on the Autoroute du Soleil, has a large number of historical monuments, including the Abbey of Saint-Philibert de Tournus, a former Benedictine monastery, and the Hôtel-Dieu, a former hospital, built in the 17th century which houses the Greuze Museum, dedicated to the French painter and draftsman, Jean-Baptiste Greuze, a native of Tournus.
This town in the Saône Valley, the small capital of Tournugeois, is located in Burgundy, equidistant from Dijon and Lyon. At the departmental level, it is the point of contact between Mâconnais and Chalonnais and lies on the border between the Oïl and Franco-Provençal dialects. With 1,462 hectares (14.62 km²), Tournus is, by surface area, the largest commune in the Mâconnais-Tournugeois community of communes (ahead of Montbellet, Boyer, and Lugny).
The commune is located (by road) 96 kilometers from Dijon, capital of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, 105 kilometers from Lyon, 364 kilometers from Paris and 416 kilometers from Marseille.
