There Place Puget is located on the site of the old Porte d'Amont from the Middle Ages. The gate was demolished in 1621 when the city walls were widened. It became the starting point for stagecoaches from the 13th century until the beginning of the 20th century. The location of the Puget Square in red at the time of Henry IV. Built on the site of the old wheat market, the square became the fodder market in the 18th century and took the name Place au Foin.
After various names, including Place des Trois Dauphins in 1861, it was finally renamed Place Puget in 1869.

The first fountain, embellished by Gaspard Puget in 1649, was replaced by a large circular basin in 1780,
