During the 18th century, fishing hamlets were established in the village of La Capte, but also, for example, on the Giens peninsula, in Les Pesquiers and in Port-Pothuau. Indeed, an official decree in the form of a letter patent of 1651 allowed the inhabitants of Hyères to build houses by the sea, which were more in the form of fisherman's huts. At the time, along with agricultural activity and that of the saltworks, fishing represented the third factor in the dispersion of habitats in the modern period.
During the first paid holidays in 1936, the municipality of Hyères established a municipal campsite, one of the pioneers in tourism and popular vacations. At the end of the Second World War, the municipality of Hyères granted long-term leases to some of its residents along the coastal strip. Over the years, the cabins became primary or secondary residences.
Today, the village has given way to a typical coastal seaside tourism where there is a small marina, shops and restaurants, mostly seasonal, parking, access to the beaches, coastal path... The hamlet of La Capte is equipped with a small port which has nearly 140 boat moorings throughout the year. The village is at the heart of the future "Grand Site de France" project wanted by the municipality since 20151. In 2017, the rue des marchands, the main street of the village, was completely rehabilitated by the municipality.
