The Pesquiers pond at the entrance to the Capte stretches over nearly 550 hectares. Converted into salt marshes over more than half of its surface area, the Salins d'Hyères, operated by the Compagnie des Salins du Midi, produced up to 30,000 tons of salt per year until 1995. Recognized as one of the most remarkable natural areas on the Var coast, the Salins d'Hyères are natural and fragile spaces that provide a resting place for migratory birds and shelter for sedentary birds.
